Losing weight can be hard

Losing weight can be hard
Everyone knows that losing weight is not easy.  In order to be successful, you must be prepared to work hard and sacrifice some of your favourite foods.
Some people take on too much though and start a diet that is either too food restrictive or the calorie consumption is too low that they inevitably fail.  These people then spend months battling with the diet spending one week following the diet to the letter and the next giving in to all their impulses. Continuing in this way will almost certainly mean that there is no weight loss and sometimes weight can be gained.  Nothing is more frustrating than to see that you are gaining weight again when still putting in so much effort.
People therefore nee to be in a position to benefit from their failure. By being prepared, you have to create a game plan to get back on track right without beating yourself up and devastating your self-esteem.  Some people find that they give themselves one meal a week when they can indulge in their cravings, others are strict with themselves during the week but let their hair down a little at the weekend.  Others get angry at themselves at giving into a craving that they become even more determined to succeed.  The best thing however is not to treat one failure as the end of your diet and to continue with your goal.
If you are like me, you look at celebrities that seem to have dropped sizes in what seems like a day when in reality, they have been dieting for some time and have been working out on a daily basis.  Most people featured in magazines that have followed well known diets again have been dieting for many months if not years.  It is easy to look at the before and after pictures and read their story and for it to seem like they have achieved their goal with little effort.  In reality however this is not the case!!!
Without effort and action, no one will succeed when dieting.  It is very unfortunate but we are unable to wish our weight away. We all have to work at it and we must be prepared for those times when we will inevitably slip up.  At this stage we must not give in or beat ourselves up about it but must pick ourselves up, put it down to a moment of weakness and move on.
As long as you prepare yourself for the demand and the commitment needed when dieting, there is no reason why you cannot achieve your ultimate goal.

Reasons for people failing to achieve their weight loss goal

Reasons for people failing to achieve their weight loss goal
There are a number of reasons why people fail to achieve their goal of loosing weight through dieting.  Many diets consists of a foods that are either unappetising or the caloric intake is too restrictive.  It is not hard to see why many people fail.  However, one very common reason why a diet plan is abandoned is that the dieter simply cannot resist the cravings for food that they enjoy the most.
After you have eaten a meal, your body converts your food into glucose so that it can be used to nourish you.  Higher levels of glucose in the blood are what help you to feel full after you have eaten.  However, as your body uses the glucose, the levels drop and you will begin to feel like you want a snack.  This is normally a weak point for someone reaching for the biscuit tin or that trust old favorite snack!
Another reason why people will find themselves having cravings when dieting is that they have become accustomed to eating frequently and eating certain types of foods.  The cravings are therefore based more on behavior than on metabolism.  It will take time for your body to adjust to the new, lower caloric amounts, and until it does, you will feel hungry nearly all the time.
Limiting the foods that you enjoy, and restricting yourself too much will inevitably mean that you will fail your diet.  Not allowing yourself that odd treat without guilt will mean that you are constantly craving for the forbidden treat.  It therefore constantly plays on your mind until you eventually give in/
Loosing weight is not an all or nothing game. For example, many people when they are dieting will find that if they have already eaten something unhealthy, they will continue to do so for the reason of the day.  You may have said this yourself before, “oh I’ve messed up already today, I will start again tomorrow” or “I’ll start eating healthy again on Monday since I’ve already eaten so badly this weekend”.
Every person at times eats too much or gives into that craving. The successful people will not let a road bump completely derail them from the task at hand and will simply put it down to a treat and move on.  The unsuccessful people fall into a trap of constantly either under eating and over eating and thinking that they will still lose weight if they are good the majority of the time.  The people is, its easier to put on weight (especially without realising) than it is to loose it!

The importance of exercising when dieting

The importance of exercising when dieting
Many people are initially shocked when they step on those scales for the first time after a few years.  When they discover that they are heavier than they thought they were some peoples natural inclination is to diet quickly which mainly means that they just start to eat less food. These people may skip lunch or eat only a tiny amount of their dinner or just eat salads meal after meal in the hope that if they eat less food they will loose weight.  This is not in fact the case. Eating much less food than your body requires actually makes it more difficult for people to lose weight.
By consuming much less calories than your body needs will mean that your body will actually start to store the food that you do consume as fat.  This is the bodies built-in mechanism to help us survive in the face of starvation.
The daily calorie intake for a man is 2500 calories and for a woman is 2000 calories.  In order to lose weight therefore you only need to reduce your calorie intake by about 500 calories.
This does not mean that you have to therefore eat 500 less calories a day as also long as you burn off more calories than you consume you can still continue to eat what you would normally.  By taking up some gentle exercises such as swimming or going for a walk you could build up the amount of calories that you burn.  You may then only need to make some smaller changes to your diet to get the same effect as a much stricter diet.
Losing weight is not something that can be done overnight. A carefully planned weight loss program requires common sense and certain guidelines. Unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation and lots of desperate people are easily duped and ripped off by that so called quick fix.
People who diet without exercising often will put back all the weight they have lost and more when they end their diet. People that take up some form of exercise are more likely to keep their new weight as the exercise has helpted to increase their metabolism.
In order to get the most of your diet, it is therefore important to also select an exercise routine that you are comfortable with to coincide with your diet.  Remember walking is one of the best and easiest exercises for strengthening your bones, controlling your weight and toning your muscles.
It’s the smaller changes to your diet and exercise routine that are the ones that you will ultimately stick to. By making these small changes you are more likely to carry them on so that your goal is more easily achieved.  These new additions to your lifestyle may then continue for years to come meaning that you can continue to maintain your weight.

Why People Fail At Losing Weight

Why People Fail At Losing Weight
Why is it that many people fail at dieting and losing weight? Many would criticise these people by saying that they have no stamina, they are lazy or that they are addicted to food and each to much and don’t exercise enough.  In many cases however its not that simple. Failure at weight loss stems from a few main factors:
Why do most want to lose weight? Most would say to look better and looking better certainly is a benefit of losing weight, but this shouldn’t be the sole reason to loseweight. People don't truly understand the risks of being overweight and without people realising the serious consequences of being overweight does not therefore seem to be a factor in people wishing to diet.  Being overweight for a long period of time or being so overweight can have fatal consequences. Without any doubt, losing body fat will improve and lengthen peoples lives. Knowing the dangers of being overweight is a tremendous motivator to not only lose fat, but to keep it off.
So many people think of a "diet" as something.  When they are on a "diet" they restrict themselves so much by the type of food they eat or they amount that they each that sooner or later failure is inevitable.  Some diets force you to only eat certain foods (e.g., no carbs, special soups etc…) and there are a few that provide meal substitutes in the form of drinks.  You may have tried many different diets before without much success.  This is because the reason for choosing the diet has been made as you want a short fix. The reason that most people fail a diet is that many people cannot commit to a permanent lifestyle change. The key to losing weight long term is to make gradual lifestyle changes.  Starting off with smaller changes and building on this means that you are more likely to stick to the changes or simply eradicate the parts of the diet that may not work for you.
With conflicting information in the media, and all of the different lose weight quick fad diets, it’s understandable why so many people really don’t know the truth about losing fat and keeping it off long term. Many people look at certain celebrities and the diets they may be doing and thinking that they will be able to achieve that look if they simply do what they do.  Most individuals are not provided the truthful facts of losing weight and becoming healthier and enter into fad diets without realising the consequences that this may have on their body.
A lot of people don't realise how much they actually consume each day. So many overweight people eat hundreds of extra calories and fat without realising it whether that just be from the types of food they eat, the amount they eat or both. When already overweight it becomes tough to know if you are gaining weight and people fall into a cycle.  Unless you are careful and watch what you eat each day it can be difficult to know whether you are losing weight or putting it on.

Using appetite suppressants

Using appetite suppressants
Many people find dieting tough as most diets are to restrictive on the types of foods that can be eaten or the amount of calories that can be consumed each day.  Due to the fact that these diets can be so unappetising, it is inevitably that people will fall victim to their cravings and fail to stick to their diets.
One way to get around these food cravings is to consider using appetite suppressants.  These are available as both prescription and over-the-counter products and can help you to control cravings and hopefully lose weight.
There are several ways that appetite suppressants might be able to help you lose weight.
Some appetite suppressants work by making your body believe that are full, regardless of when you have actually eaten and thus dampening your appetite.  You are therefore more inclined to eat less than you normally would.
Some appetite suppressants also help to increase your metabolism and burn calories meaning you can continue to enjoy the foods that you like whilst still loosing weight.  This benefit is extremely helpful in allowing the dieter to stick to their diet as they are not having to restrict from their diet certain foods.
Another benefit from using appetite suppressants is that over time your body has become used to eating large amounts of food.  The appetite suppressants can help  decrease the physical amount of food you eat every day and so it is therefore more likely that you stomach will return to its normal size and you simply will not require as much food to feel satisfied even once you have finished using the appetite suppressants.
Most people find that they do not have to take appetite suppressants forever, generally several weeks or months are enough to help the dieter get over the initial pressure of cravings and start to return their body to normal so they do not need to eat as much in order to feel as satisfied.  Appetite suppressants can help you to reach your weight goal.

Losing Weight can be as simply as changing your habits

Losing Weight can be as simply as changing your habits
A lot of us have habits, good or bad, that have been formed over many years simply by repetition. Eating habits are of course no exception. You may find that you either snack whilst watching TV, nibbling on food as you are cooking or reaching for that trusted chocolate bar as part of your afternoon tea break. These are all habits that have been reinforced until they have finally become part of you until you do them without thinking.
We also find that certain moods and circumstances cause us to eat even if we are not hungry. For example when we are feeling down may of us reach for the chocolate but others may find that anger, boredom, fatigue, happiness, loneliness, nervousness, or anxiety may all trigger an eating response. Habits are hard to break.
In order to lose weight, you need to break these habits that may form the crux of why you may be overweight in the first place. Breaking habits can be hard. Resisting temptation is difficult but the trick is that if you succeed in resisting the first time, it becomes easier to resist the next time. Keeping up resisting temptation then becomes a habit in itself. Introducing new “good” habits in place of the old “bad” habits can make it easier to break the pattern of the bad habits and ultimately lose the weight you want.
New habits could include ensuring that you eat three meals a day, having two or three planned snacks a day, not buying junk food such as chocolate to avoid the temptation of eating them or serving your dinner on a smaller plate to ensure that you are not eating to large a portion.
If you do however get the sudden urge to indulge in a bad habit, find a way to distract yourself. You could go for a walk, give a friend a call, have a nice long bath,
Breaking habits are tough and it does mean that you have to be determined to stick to your diet. Once the habits are broken, however, you have changed your lifestyle forever which means going forward things can only get easier and the more likely you are to keep the weight off.

Losing weight can just be down to a positive attitude

Losing weight can just be down to a positive attitude
Once you have made up your mind to lose weight, you have to ensure that you make a commitment and go into it with a positive attitude. If you don’t go into a diet with the right attitude you are bound to fail. We all know that losing weight is a tough challenge. It takes time, practice and sheer determination sometimes to change lifetime habits.
On starting your diet you need to start it thinking that you will succeed. Starting off a diet thinking that you will find it hard and that you fail will inevitably mean that you will. If you think negatively from the outset of your diet, you'll become a downbeat and pessimistic meaning that it will be an uphill struggle from day one. Even slightly negative thoughts have a greater impact on you and last longer than powerful positive thoughts. Negative thinking doesn't do you any good, it just holds you back from accomplishing the things you want to do.
In every weight loss magazine article you read, the dieters always claimed how easy they found losing their weight. Within all of these stories you will almost always find that the dieters claim that they had a positive mental attitude whilst aiming for their goal. This is the true reason behind their success.
Choosing a diet or weight loss programme that suits you can help with this positive attitude. Going into a diet that you are excited about or one that is either going to fit in with your lifestyle or allow you to eat more of the foods that you enjoy means that you are not daunted from the very outset. Investigate the weight loss programs that appeal to you and that you feel you are more likely to stick with throughout the weight-loss process.
The further you go into your diet, the more confidence you will gain and your positive attitude will increase leaving your more able to take on more aspects to your weight loss plan. Adding exercise to your diet or cutting back on some of the foods that you could not live without before are easier at this stage. Adding further areas to work on to your diet as and when you feel you can cope with them, rather than grouping them all together at the start of the diet, makes the diets much more easier to cope with.
Starting off small with the right attitude will give you the best chances of success.
